Big Letters!

Picture1 Big Letters

It seems to me how interesting it is when Bible verses stand out for you. Looking at 1 Corinthians 16:21 I was struck by what the Apostle Paul said. At the end of the verse and this particular letter, he says, “I, Paul, write this greeting in my own hand.” It must have taken some time and some ink to write such a long letter.

Now, I know, as I write the ‘Thought for the week’ how many crossings outs there are, how many things I change as I write changed thoughts, how many re-writes. Then when written I often have my grammar or phrases corrected and made more readable. So, I take my hat off to the Apostle for hand-writing the letter.

If you were then to look at Paul’s letter to the Galatians 6:11, Colossians 4:18, 2 Thessalonians 3:17 and the shorter letter to Philemon verse 19, you will see that Paul says, “I write this letter in my own hand.” Maybe the other letters were dictated and written by scribes, but all those letters written by hand is some achievement.

What made me smile was Galatians 6:11 which says, “See what large letters I use as I write to you with my own hand!” Maybe Paul was writing in the gloom or maybe his eyesight wasn’t too good, or maybe he was using a large pen! Such questions.

We need to realise though, that the Apostle’s words were breathed on words from the Lord and were written way back, but are nevertheless words from God for each one of us this very day. The depth of teaching, encouragement and guidance, much written by hand, is mind blowing.

As I conclude my ‘thought’, I want to leave you with Paul’s greeting in 2 Corinthians 13:14, “May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, be with you all.” Do I hear an Amen?
